The Election Commission on Monday wrote to all recognised national and state parties, asking them to submit a copy of their latest party constitutions, with all the updated amendments, if any, within 30 days.

Citing a Supreme Court order on a petition by Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, the EC asked the parties to submit their latest constitutions so they can be uploaded on its website.

It said that parties are registered under Section 29 (1) of the Registration of the People Act, 1951, which says that they must submit a copy of the memorandum or rules and regulations to the EC at the time of registration. Further, according to the EC’s guidelines, parties are required to submit all amendments to their constitution to the EC as well. These are uploaded on the EC’s website.
