The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has busted a racket involved in making adulterated ghee in Ahmedabad and arrested four persons. Two key accused are absconding.
The two kingpins have been identified as Gordhandas Somnani and Sundardar Hotumal. The four arrested are: Parbatsinh Bevda,the owner of the unit,Kishormal Todumal and Mansingh Padhiar,both workers in the unit,and Narandas Giglani,the supervisor.
They were picked up on Saturday after Crime Branch sleuths raided the factory in Kalupur area and seized 1,950 kilograms of adulterated ghee. They also seized gas stoves,empty tins,wrappers and sealing machines used for manufacturing and packaging adulterated ghee.
Inspector SM Chaudhary said,They used to use palmolive seeds,soyabeans,dalda and turmeric to make ghee. The main suspects escaped during the raid. They used to pay the owner of the unit,Parbatsinh,for using the premises of his empty place which was empty.
They used to supply the ghee to wholesale dealers. We are investigating further to see where did the raw materials come from, Chaudhary added.
The police said the suspects used to sell 15 kg of their ghee for Rs 2,000 as against the price of original ghee,which is Rs 3,500 for 15 kilograms.
