Down on His Luck

If you remember Gaurav Kapur,it would be for his pranks and antics that once passed off as veejaying on television, not for the blink-and-you-would-miss appearances in movies. Now he is hoping his third film Bad Luck Govind… Muqaddar ka Bandar will prove lucky. Never mind the title.

In the film by little-known director Varun Khanna,Kapur plays the lead but he does not get to be his old television self, pulling off jokes from the veejay hat. “In the film,I spell bad luck for those around me. The strange part of my character is that I am subdued and scared, thanks to the spate of unfortunate events that occur due to my presence,” says Kapur, who essayed bit roles in Darna Mana Hai and Sssshhh.

Kapur,30,says veejaying was always a means to the end — acting. “When you are offered a lot of money at a young age,it is hard to resist,” he says. “But I quit because veejaying wasn’t challenging enough. It was easy for me to be fun.” He has gone on to sign an untitled film by Pritish Nandy Communications. Just perhaps Kapur has discovered acting is a trifle challenging.
