5 colleges seek Junagadh Sanskrit varsity’s affiliation

The number of Sanskrit-medium colleges offering under-graduate and post-graduate degrees in the state will rise to 33 with the Shree Somnath Sanskrit University (SSSU) preparing to grant affiliation to five new colleges from the current academic session

The number of Sanskrit-medium colleges offering under-graduate and post-graduate degrees in the state will rise to 33 with the Shree Somnath Sanskrit University (SSSU) preparing to grant affiliation to five new colleges from the current academic session.

Jhanvi Sanskrit Mahavidyalay,Amreli,Ramjanki Sanskrit Mahavidyalay,Ahmedabad,Navjagruti College,Vyara,KB Joshi Sanskrit Mahavidyalay,Porbandar and Yangnapurush Sanskrit Mahavidyalay,Salangpur have sought affiliation with SSSU.

“A Local Inquiry Committees (LIC) has been formed to look into the applications and a formal decision is likely to be taken in a week’s time,” said SSSU vice-chancellor Vepaty Sastry on Monday.

“Except Vyara,all the other colleges where the applications have come from have Sanskrit Pathshalas. Students completing their madhyama will be able to pursue higher education at the same place,after the new institutes get affiliation,” he added.

Madhyama is equivalent to grade XII in Sanskrit. However,SSSU gives admission to students who clear Class XII with Sanskrit as a subject. There are six Sanskrit colleges in Ahmedabad while Amreli and Porbandar have one each.
