In his letter written last week, Saxena said a financial deterrent would encourage better driving behaviour, as there is a correlation between repeat traffic offences and the risk of accidents.

Speeding was the next most frequent violation. Over 80,897 challans were generated for speeding in the city. This meant over 400 people were caught speeding on the city roads daily.
