ABOUT Sunil Dutt

Sunil Dutt: A Legacy in Cinema and Politics Sunil Dutt, born Balraj Raghunath Dutt on June 6, 1929, was a multifaceted figure who excelled as an actor, producer, director, and politician. His cinematic journey, spanning nearly five decades, began with Railway Platform (1955). However, it was his roles in critically acclaimed films like Ek Hi Raasta (1956) and the iconic Mother India (1957) that propelled him to stardom. These performances showcased his versatility and established him as a leading figure in Hindi cinema. His contributions to Indian cinema were recognized with the Padma Shri in 1968. Beyond his acting prowess, Dutt was a successful film producer and director. His marriage to co-star Nargis in 1958 solidified his place in the annals of Bollywood history; the couple had three children, including actor Sanjay Dutt. Dutt's influence extended beyond the silver screen. Entering politics in 1984, he served five terms as a Member of Parliament for Mumbai North West, representing the Indian National Congress party. He held the significant post of Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports under the Manmohan Singh government (2004-2005), and also served as the Sheriff of Mumbai. Dutt passed away on May 25, 2005, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of achievement in both the entertainment and political spheres. His enduring contribution to Indian cinema and his public service remain significant landmarks in his biography.
