New Delhi, Feb 25 (ANI): Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Prem Nath informed that a local court has sent Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, Jawaharlal Nehru University students booked on sedition charges, to three-day police remand. The DCP said the Delhi Police will interrogate the students amid tight security. Khalid and Bhattacharya are among the five students, who along with JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar, had allegedly raised ‘anti-national’ slogans at an event organised on the university campus on February 9.

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Wednesday deferred the hearing on the bail plea of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar to February 29. Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Shailendra Babbar informed that Kanhaiya’s remand will be sought. Reiterating similar statement, another SPP Anil Soni said the court has directed to hold Kanhaiya’s next hearing at an undisclosed location, in view of his security and safety.

Kolkata, Feb 15 (ANI): A person was injured after two motorcycle-borne miscreants fired gun shots outside the Loreto School at Convent road in Kolkata on Monday. The victim was shot in the leg and was rushed to the nearby hospital. The site where the victim was shot is reported to be near the jute mill. Police have reached the spot to identify further details and a man-hunt has been launched against the miscreants. Meanwhile, security has been heightened outside the school in light of the shooting.

Srinagar, Feb 09 (ANI): Separatists called for a shutdown in the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday on Afzal Guru’s third death anniversary. Guru was executed for his involvement in the 2001 Parliament attack case. In Srinagar, shops, schools and government installations remained closed as a precautionary measure, while roads wore a deserted look as most people remained indoors. The armed security personnel patrolled residential and market areas to prevent any untoward incident. In 2013, Guru was hanged in the national capital, sparking clashes in Kashmir. Dozens of people were injured during the protests.
