ABOUT Girish Karnad

Noted playwright, actor and director Girish Karnad passed away at his residence in Bengaluru on June 10, 2019. Karnad, a recipient of Jnanpith Award, was also conferred the Padma Shri in 1974 and the Padma Bhushan in 1992. He was also a Rhodes Scholar. His plays, written in Kannada, have been translated into English and several Indian languages.  Karnad is survived by his wife Dr Saraswathy Ganapathy and two children. His son Raghu Karnad is an accomplished writer, having received the Windham–Campbell Literature Prize for Non-Fiction.
