If the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act amendment bill is passed, the fine for smoking in public will go up from Rs 200 to 2,000, the legal age to buy tobacco products will go up from 18 to 21 years and the loose sale of cigarettes will be disallowed.

The Rajasthan High Court also asked the state to explain why it reduced VAT from 65 per cent to 45 per cent when its stated policy is to reduce consumption of cigarettes.
