Under pressure,DDCA vests all powers in CIC

The CIC however, will not have any financial powers, which remains with the executive committee

A year after Delhi crickets India stars threatened to walk out on the state association and hours after an impromptu walkout during an official meeting by former players, the Delhi amp; District Cricket Association DDCA finally decided to curtail the all-powerful sports committee.

Starting next season, the Cricket Improvement Committee CIC will decide on cricketing matters in the state and with the sports committee restricted to running the DDCA league. The CIC,which includes the top brass of the DDCA,will now be responsible for selection of coaches, selectors, organising coaching camps and other related activities. The CIC however, will not have any financial powers, which remains with the executive committee.

The immediate trigger was a meeting at DDCA president Arun Jaitleys residence to discuss the issue of a sports committee member calling an under-15 camp without informing the CIC. The meeting turned ugly with sports committee members engaging in a verbal altercation, forcing senior cricketers like Bishan Singh Bedi,Madan Lal,Kirti Azad,Surender Khanna and Maninder Singh to walk out. They were pacified when Jaitley formally approved complete powers to the CIC.

No individual would be allowed to take decisions in future. The DDCA has taken a serious note of an individual from the Sports Committee organising a camp on his own. We dont recognise such actions, DDCA general secretary Sneh Bansal said. The Sports Committee is in charge of running the league and all other cricket matters and decisions shall be referred to and taken by the CIC. All financial sanctions would now have to be cleared only by the Executive Committee, he added.
