National silver medalist and current junior national champion in trap shooting,Kynan Chenai, put his life-guard training skills to use and saved a life while camping in Panchmeshwar,Uttarakhand.
Along with his dad,Darius,National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president Raninder Singh and veteran trap shooter Mansher Singh,Kynan was camping near the Indo-Nepal border.
Picnickers were caught in the current while swimming in river Sarayu. Kynan rescued one of them from drowning, two others luckily survived but two were swept away in the current. Me and my dad were on our way back to the camp, when we heard them shouting for help. We saw them getting swept away in the current. Dont think anyone of them knew how to swim, Kynan recalled. I had to jump into the muddy waters to grab the person I saved. By that time my dad had also joined in and together we got him out. I also gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Thankfully he gained consciousness after coughing out water, added the 21-year-old,who apart from being a swimming champion at the school level is also a trained life-guard.
But despite our best efforts we couldnt save two others, Kynan added.
NRAI president, who was also there added: It was an extremely brave feat and we are proud of Kynan.
