With Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee all set to leave for London on a five-day trip to woo investors Sunday, the BJP and the Congress questioned the utility of the move, calling it a “misuse of money”.
“Faltering soldiers cannot win a war. We have seen her utsavs, songs, theatres and entertainment programme on Martyrs’ Day. This is another such initiative. She is taking with her nearly 60 delegates and is only expecting 30 per cent success. The CM is already skeptical about the outcome of her tour,” said state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
“I want to know what will she do there (in London). What are her plans? How will she woo the British industrialists to invest in West Bengal? Probably, she will tell prospective investors how much extortion money they will have to pay for smooth business,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Union Minister Babul Supriyo asked, “What is the utility of Mamata Banerjee’s London visit? How will West Bengal benefit?”
Mamata, accompanied by a delegation of bureaucrats, MPs and businessmen, will seek increased business ties between UK and West Bengal and investment into the state.
“It is a clear misuse of money. So much money is being spent on foreign trips, then why is the state government not paying the balance DA to its employees”, asked Supriyo, the BJP MP from Asansol.
Criticising the TMC government, Supriyo said the state had failed to make in any progress.
