A special CBI court Friday issued summons to BJP’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge Amit Shah and 36 others in the Tulsiram Prajapati encounter case of 2006. All accused are expected to appear before the court on May 23.
The CBI had filed a chargesheet in the case on September 29, 2012, against Shah and 18 others, including several police officers. However, the papers of the case were transferred to Mumbai CBI court only the last month.
Friday was the first date of court hearing. Special CBI judge J T Utpat issued summons to the accused, a mandatory proceeding to commence trial as per law.
Prajapati, a key witness in the alleged fake encounter of Sohrabbudin Shaikh, was killed by police at Chapri village, Banaskantha district of Gujarat, in December 2006.
Meanwhile, the special CBI court Friday also rejected the bail plea of suspended IPS officer D G Vanzara, an accused in the Sohrabbudin encounter case. He was arrested on April 24, 2007, along with two other IPS officers Rajkumar Pandian and Dinesh M N for their role in the alleged killing Sohrabuddin and his wife Kauser Bi.
