A 55-year-old man who runs a madrasa was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants at Kidwai Nagar of Etah district on Saturday evening. He was standing outside the madrasa when the three youths arrived on a bike and shot him.
The victim, Sahzaad Ali, was involved in a dispute over the madrasa land with his neighbour, Sabir Ali, a local corporator, said Additional Superintendent of Police, Etah, Bisarjan Singh Yadav. Police are looking into all angles, he added.
Circle Officer, City, Nivesh Katiyar said Sahzaad, who was also a mufti, lived in one portion of the madrasa with his family. On Saturday, three youths arrived at his residence. When Sahzaad came out to meet them, they reportedly opened fire.
Sahzaad was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. An FIR against Sabir Ali and his son has been filed. No one has been arrested. Locals staged protests and blocked the road near the madrasa. Few persons also gheraoed the police station demanding arrest of the accused. Senior police officers assured the protesters of action against the accused.
