A 20-year-old girl on Wednesday was hacked to death by her father after he found her speaking to a boy at Valpoi city in Goa.

According to the police, the accused, Shankar Reddy, was returning home from him farm when he found her elder daughter Sujatha speaking to an unidentified person. “The boy took to his heels and fled from the scene, which enraged Reddy who suspected his daughter of wrong-doing,” a police official said.

Reddy allegedly attacked Sujatha with a sickle slashing her several times before killing her. “He also tried to attack her younger daughter who tried to intervene. However, she manged to escape with minor injuries to her fingers,” the official added.

The accused later surrendered to the police and his younger daughter was admitted to Goa Medical Hospital.

“The accused is in a state of shock. Most of his words were incomprehensible. He confessed to the killing and says he attacked his daughter out of rage and inconsolably cried. We do not suspect any case of honour killing and are waiting for the mother of the children to return after which we can conclude our investigation,” said Superintendent of Police, Umesh Gaonkar.
