Actor Dhanush, who is gearing up for his Tamil directorial debut Power Pandi will be seen playing a cameo in the film, a source said. Veteran actor Raj Kiran has been roped in to play the title role. “Dhanush will be briefly seen playing the younger version of Raj Kiran. It will be a cameo but will feature at an important juncture in the film,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.
Raj plays a stuntman named Power Pandi, and the film’s story revolves around the lives of a few stuntmen. Also starring Prasanna and Chaya Singh, the film has cinematography by R. Velraj and music by Sean Roldan.
Dhanush has already started directing the project, which is expected to hit the screens in the first half of 2017. The project is being bankrolled by Wunderbar Films.
Earlier, Dhanush was elated over his production and critically acclaimed Tamil drama “Visaranai” becoming India’s official pick for Oscars 2017 in the Foreign Language Film category. He has thanked everyone for believing in him and supporting his vision.
The announcement was made on Thursday.
Based on the novel Lock Up by auto-rickshaw driver-turned-writer M. Chandrakumar, the film is about organised crime within the police force. It also throws the spotlight on police brutality. Visaranai, helmed by filmmaker Vetrimaaran, stars Dinesh, Samuthirakani, Ajay Ghosh and Kishore.
Visaranai was produced by Dhanush, who had released the film under his home banner Wunderbar Films. The film earned critical acclaim earlier last year when it had its world premiere at Venice International Film Festival. It also won National Film Awards.
