Madonna UK’s best-selling female singles artist

Rihanna stood second with sales figures of 11.4 million in just seven years.

Pop icon Madonna has been named the best-selling female singles artist in UK chart history brushing aside R&B star Rihanna.

The 54-year-old singer achieved the feat by selling more than 17.8 million singles in the UK since the release of her debut track ‘Holiday’ in 1984,reported Digital Spy.

However,24-year-old Rihanna stood second with sales figures of 11.4 million in just seven years. The ‘Umbrella’ hitmaker released her first single in 2005.

According to the Official Charts Company the other artists include Australian superstar Kylie Minogue in third place with 10.2 million sales putting her ahead of Whitney Houston with 8.5 million.

Pop sensation Lady Gaga only managed fifth with 7.3 million sales. Others in the top 10 list include Britney Spears,Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.
