The regional air service connecting Ahmedabad to Porbandar in the first phase is going to be launched at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Friday. State Aviation Minister Saurabh Patel will inaugurate the air service. Mumbai-based Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Pvt Ltd (MEHAIR) was given the contract to run the service by the state government.
A similar air service started by captain GR Gopinath in the state was called off in 2013 after the company failed to break even. According to sources, by next week the company will start operating its services between Ahmedabad-Bhuj and Ahmedabad-Jamnagar.
It has one 9-seater Cessna Grand Carvan aircraft as of now, while the company plans to induct another similar aircraft in the coming months.
Besides, before the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit the Ahmedabad airport will have another domestic airline operating from here. The Vistara Airline, a joint operation by Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, will launch its Delhi-Ahmedabad-Mumbai to and fro flight on January 9.
