The Competition Commission of India on Thursday instituted a probe into suspected cartel activity among the countrys major onion traders,even as the policymakers looked for ways to arrest the relentless rise in food inflation. The Commission met here today and decided to ask the director-general to investigate the possible cartel in the onion trade and submit the report in 45 days, an official source told FE on condition of not being quoted. Driven primarily by a 23% rise in onion prices in the week ended December 25,Indias food inflation accelerated to 18.32% from the previous weeks 14.44%.
