On the eve of the Republic Day,two terrorists were trapped in an encounter with security forces near Banihal in Ramban district, quite close to the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was closed for vehicular movement on both sides for the day.
DIG Hemant Lohia said,The area, where the terrorists are hiding,is still cordoned off. However, because of the darkness and the inclement weather conditions, the operation cannot be continued during the night. Further operation will resume tomorrow. Besides, the hideout has been planned to be blasted tomorrow with an IED,only after which a search of the hideout will be taken up.
The site is quite away from the national highway, and the traffic was just regulated in the wake of the rainfall as the road had become slippery. The regulation was not because of the operation, he added. Sources said the national highway was opened only after 4 pm.
