If you are eligible and enrolled in the electoral rolls till July 1, you will have to verify your name in the revised electoral rolls to be published on November 20 to ensure you can exercise your right to vote in the forthcoming elections of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The electoral panels (based on constituency-wise boundaries) as well as polling booths will be declared on December 5 and 12 respectively.

The state government in October had declared that those enrolled in the voter list till July 1 will be able to vote in the forthcoming PMC elections.

“The draft electoral roll for the PMC elections with an enrollment cut off till July 1 will be published on November 20. It will be open for the public to verify and submit their suggestions or objections to it till November 27,” said PMC deputy election officer Prasad Katkar.

The list of electoral panel wise voter lists will be published on December 5 while the list of polling booths will be published on December 8. Voter list according to polling booths will be published on December 12.

According to election authorities, there will not be any addition or deletion of voters in the electoral rolls. Corrections in names will be considered so that a voter can exercise their right to vote in the electoral panel where he or she resides and vote at the nearest polling booth.

Those who voted in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections but whose names were missing from the revised electoral rolls can seek their inclusion in the voters list.

In a notification issued last month, the state government conveyed to all municipal corporations in Maharashtra that the July 1 electoral rolls will be used for the civic elections.

The PMC on Tuesday carried out draws for reservation of seats for the PMC elections. A total of 165 corporators have to be elected from 41 electoral panels in the Pune civic body. Four corporators from 40 electoral panels and five corporators from one electoral panel have to be elected for PMC.

Of the 165 seats, 83 have been reserved for women based on the decision to reserve 50 per cent seats for women. On the basis of category, 44 seats have been reserved for OBC, 22 for SC and two for ST category.

The delay in the elections has been because of a reservation quota challenged in the Supreme Court. However, the apex court directed the state government to complete the civic elections by the end of January next year.
