Conservative MP Bob Blackman, who returned to the parliament after victory in the recently concluded UK’s general election, took the oath of office by swearing on the Bible and Bhagavad Gita.

Blackman, who is not of Indian origin but represents Harrow East constituency, took the oath of allegiance to His Majesty King Charles on the King James Bible and the Bhagavad Gita.

Notably, the constituency Harrow East which Blackman represents, has a considerable Hindu population and it could be considered as an expression to woo the Hindu voters.

Blackman posted a video of his oath taking on social media platform X, and wrote “Proud to have taken my oath of allegiance to HM King Charles on the King James Bible and the Gita as we return to Parliament after the General Election.”

Bob Blackman was also recently selected as the Chairman of the 1922 Committee, which will play a major role in selecting the successor of Rishi Sunak. The Conservative leadership has suffered a jitters after the UK election results.

In the July 4 snap UK election, called in by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the Conservatives suffered a blow and lost majority of their holds by winning only 121 seats. Whereas newly inducted PM Keir Starmer led Labour Party broke records to win 411 seats in a 650 seat house.

With change in guards in the UK, the war ravaged world which is being watched closely from a geo-political landscape, will be an altogether different ball game for PM Keir Starmer when he takes a stance on the new multipolar global world order.
