‘Never been stronger’: India, US have signed 10-year defence pact in Kuala Lumpur, says Pete Hegseth

The US has signed a 10-year defence framework agreement with India, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Friday. The pact was signed at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his American counterpart Pete Hegseth.

“This advances our defence partnership, a cornerstone for regional stability and deterrence, enhancing coordination, information sharing and technological cooperation between the two nations,” Hegseth posted on X after the meeting.

“We’re enhancing our coordination, info sharing, and tech cooperation. Our defense ties have never been stronger,” he added.

Jaishankar-Rubio meet

This comes just days after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the same city. Ahead of the meeting Rubio described US-India relations as “deep, historic and important” and underlined that his country’s ties with Pakistan do not come at the expense of its “relationship” and “friendship” with India.
