The Malayalam original Drishyam, headlined by Mohanlal, became a massive cultural phenomenon upon its release in 2013, earning widespread acclaim for everyone associated with the film. Among them was actor Esther Anil, who won hearts as Anu. The role shot her to fame, leading her to reprise the character in the Telugu and Tamil remakes, Drushyam and Papanasam, respectively. Now, Esther has added a significant personal milestone to her journey. She has graduated with a degree in International Development from the London School of Economics (LSE). Marking the occasion, the actor shared her graduation photos on Instagram along with a heartfelt note reflecting on the challenges she and her family faced in securing funding for her education.
In the lengthy post, Esther recalled how the journey began when her father once mentioned someone who had studied at LSE and suggested that she apply as well. At the time, she admits she felt it was “way too big a fish to catch” and remembers thinking her father was a “fool with such unrealistic dreams.” “Cut to today, here I am, his daughter, standing in front of the London School of Economics, graduated in International Development. There is so much magic in life,” she wrote.
She further revealed that she did not immediately inform her parents after receiving the acceptance letter, knowing the course was unaffordable and that her brothers were already on student loans. When she finally told them, their response stayed with her. “All they said was, We know how much you want this. Money will come. You are going.” Esther also spoke candidly about her time at LSE, recalling her constant battle with extreme impostor syndrome and the intimidation of competing alongside some of the brightest minds. Yet, she added that the experience ultimately transformed her for the better. “It made me turn deeper into something I’ve been passionate about for years, women and power,” she wrote.
The actor concluded her note by thanking her family, relatives, friends, and supporters on social media for standing by her, ending on a deeply personal note: “Maybe I’m not the dumbest after all. Maybe there is some light in me. Maybe I’ll join the powerful women someday.” Several celebrities congratulated her in the comments section, including Nazriya Nazim Fahadh, Aparna Balamurali, Gouri G. Kishan, Khatija Rahman, and many others also shared their warm wishes.
