The incursion has proven Ukraine's ability to seize the initiative and has boosted its morale, which was sapped by a failed counteroffensive last summer and months of grinding Russian gains in the eastern Donbas region. (AP)Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, the Ukrainian forces have destroyed a bridge in Russia’s Kursk region which is considered to be a strategic bridge over the Seym River, according to Ukraine’s commander.
As per a Reuters report, Ukraine restricted the supply capacity of a Russian group which was bound to limit the advances of Kyiv’s forces into Russian territory.
The surprise attack by Ukraine in Russia on August 6 is being considered as one of the biggest since World War 2 ended, wherein the personnel of Kyiv have seized more than 80 settlements over 1,150 square kilometers (444 square miles) in Kursk.
Ukraine’s Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said, “Kursk direction. Minus one more bridge! Ukrainian Air Force aviation continues to deprive the enemy of logistical capabilities with precision airstrikes, which significantly affects the course of hostilities,” as quoted by Reuters from Telegram messaging app.
In a video posted by the commander, an explosion on a bridge was visible with a thick plume of smoke rising and one of its sections destroyed. But Reuters could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
According to the military analysts, there were three bridges in the Kursk region from where Russia was supplying its forces and out of these three, the Ukraine’s military has destroyed or seriously damaged at least two of them.
This is the second bridge which Ukraine’s forces have attacked since Friday. It is clearly suggesting that Ukraine is planning to seek a foothold in the area which is being considered as a turnaround moment in the Russia-Ukraine’s war which is continuing since February 2022.
In a post on X, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, “It is crucial that our partners remove barriers that hinder us from weakening Russian positions in the way this war demands. The bravery of our soldiers and the resilience of our combat brigades compensate for the lack of essential decisions from our partners.”
