Trump sues Wall Street Journal: US President Donald Trump on Friday sued the publishers of the Wall Street Journal and its owners, including Rupert Murdoch seeking $10 billion in damages over a report about a collection of letters gifted to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003, which had a note bearing President Donald Trump’s name and a sexually suggestive drawing.

The lawsuit filed by Trump was against Dow Jones, News Corp, Rupert Murdoch and two Wall Street Journal reporters, which has accused them of defamation, stating they acted with malicious intent which has caused President Trump overwhelming financial and reputational harm. The lawsuit has been filed in federal court in the Southern District of Florida.

Informing about the lawsuit, Trump in a Truth Social post said, “I look forward to getting Rupert Murdoch to testify in my lawsuit against him and his ‘pile of garbage’ newspaper, the WSJ. That will be an interesting experience!!!”

Trump had earlier rejected the WSJ report and warned Murdoch, who is the founder of News Corp, that he planned to sue the WSJ and others associated with it. Dow Jones, which is the parent of WSJ, is a division of News Corp, Reuters reported.

Financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in a New York prison in 2019, while awaiting his trial. The Epstein case has triggered several conspiracy theories among Trump’s base of Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporters, who alleged that the Trump administration has been covering up the Epstein case and targeting Attorney General Pam Bondi for her stance related to Epstein files. The MAGA base demanded release of Epstein files and transparency in the matter.

Earlier, a Justice Department’s memo released on July 7 concluded that Epstein died by suicide and that there was “no incriminating client list” or evidence that Epstein blackmailed prominent people.

Judge dismisses Trump’s copyright lawsuit against Bob Woodward

President Trump faced a setback from the court on Friday, when his $50 million lawsuit against journalist Bob Woodward and his publishing house Simon & Schuster was dismissed by a federal judge, ruling that the Republican leader had no copyright claim over “The Trump Tapes” interviews. The US District Judge Paul Gardephe of the Southern District of New York gave the legal team of the US president a months time to file another amended complaint.
