Days after his feud with Donald Trump exploded publicly, Elon Musk on Saturday deleted his controversial tweet claiming “Trump is in the Epstein files”, signalling a possible attempt to dial down the tension.

It was on Thursday, when in a post on X, Tesla CEO dropped a “big bomb.”

Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.” “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out,” he added.

The former advisor-turned-foe, who is at loggerheads with Trump over his “Big Beautiful Bill,” left the US administration last month to focus more on his business that suffered while he spearheaded the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

The tech billionaire deleted the post after, Trump Friday made his disdain with Musk clear in multiple interviews. When ABC News asked him about reports of a possible phone call with Musk to ease tensions, Trump responded: “You mean the man who has lost his mind?” He added he was “not particularly” interested in speaking with Musk.

Speaking to CNN, Trump said: “I’m not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem. The poor guy’s got a problem.” He told Politico their relationship was “going very well, never done better,” even as The New York Times reported that, in private, Trump had suggested Musk’s erratic behaviour might be linked to drug use.

Unlike the last nine months, during which, Trump and Musk were inseparable and praised each other highly, the last week has been turbulent, and the Thursday in particular, explosive.

At a White House press briefing on Thursday, Trump took aim at Musk, voicing support for a bill that could deal a serious blow to electric vehicle makers like Tesla. The move was widely seen as a direct hit.

Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will any more,” Trump told reporters. He then added with a hint of foreboding, “He hasn’t said bad about me personally, but I’m sure that’ll be next.”

Musk didn’t wait. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate…Such ingratitude,” he posted in a blistering rebuttal.

He also floated the idea of launching a new political party that “actually represents the 80% in the middle.” Trump, for his part, hinted at retaliation by threatening to cancel Musk’s government contracts.

Responding to the allegations from Musk, Trump in a post on Truth Social wrote, “I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago.”
