The department Friday released thousands of files linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019, after US President Donald Trump signed a bill last month directing their disclosure within 30 days.
The release comes amid political sensitivity surrounding the issue, with Democrats mounting a strong campaign demanding that records related to the wealthy financier, known for his links with several influential figures, be made public. Trump had been friends with Epstein for years before the relationship ended, a connection that has remained a source of political controversy.
Among the exhibits released, one document refers to the use of massages and Ayurveda for detoxification. “Many practitioners in the West are now offering massage and other treatments based upon this 5,000-year-old system of natural healing from India,” it states. The files also include articles such as ‘The Art of Giving Massage’, which mention the use of sesame oil for detoxification.
The disclosure contains only a limited number of photographs of Trump, and the Justice Department has acknowledged that the release of documents was incomplete. The files feature several photographs of former US president Bill Clinton, along with an image of Epstein with late pop star Michael Jackson. Neither Trump nor Clinton has ever been accused of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.
Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on charges alleging that he sexually abused and trafficked dozens of underage girls.
