Nepal ex-Dy PM Lamichhane held in ‘cooperative fraud’ case

Nepal Police Friday arrested former Deputy Prime Minister and Rashtriya Swatantra Party Chief Rabi Lamichhane from his party office. Nepal Police Friday arrested former Deputy Prime Minister and Rashtriya Swatantra Party Chief Rabi Lamichhane from his party office. Lamichhane’s arrest comes over a month after a parliamentary panel found that Galaxy Media, of which Lamichhane is the Vice Chairman, borrowed

Rs 850 million from Pokhara-based Surya Darshan cooperative and spent it illegally.

Lamichhane, head of the fourth largest party in Nepal’s Parliament, said just before his arrest that the arrest “ marks the count down of the Oli regime.”

Some of his party leaders followed the police while party workers are likely to head to Pokhara to protest.
