Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan announced that he was dissolving his party’s political committee, in his first move after being incommunicado for weeks. A post on his official social media account, which he does not have access to while incarcerated, stated that a smaller committee would replace the existing body, with Salman Akram Raja in charge of the reconstitution process, according to Dawn.

Khan is lodged at the Adiala jail in Pakistan after conviction in corruption cases.

“I am dissolving the political committee of the PTI today. Party’s Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has full authority to form a smaller committee to formulate a political strategy and implement it,” the post read.

Khan also said that Shahid Khattak should be appointed as the parliamentary leader in the National Assembly.

“Imran Khan’s health is perfectly fine. However, he was very angry and said that they are subjecting him to mental torture,” Khanum said.

Uzma said she was “happy to finally receive permission for the meeting” and added that she would speak to the media after returning from jail.

This came after PTI supporters staged a massive protest, seeking the whereabouts of Khan, who has been behind bars since August 2023, when he was found guilty on corruption charges.

PTI supporters also held protests outside the Islamabad High Court despite Section 144 being in force.

Family expresses concern over Imran Khan’s health

Khan’s family members have repeatedly alleged that they are unable to meet him for several weeks, despite court orders permitting them.

On Monday, Kasim Khan, the son of the former Pakistan PM, had expressed fears that the authorities are concealing “something irreversible” about his father’s condition.

“Not knowing whether your father is safe, injured or even alive is a form of psychological torture,” Khan told Reuters.
