After meeting with Arab leaders, Trump says ‘will end war in Gaza’

“This is my most important meeting,” he told the press. “But this is the one that’s very important to me because we’re going to end something that should have probably never started.”

The meeting was attended by the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan. The US president said that the sit-down included “all of the big players except for Israel, but that’s going to be next”, referring to his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House next week.

Recognition of Palestinian state, ‘reward for Hamas’, says Trump

Trump said that the move by several European nations to recognise the Palestinian state was a reward to Hamas for the atrocities it committed on October 7, 2023.

“As if to encourage continued conflict, some in this body seek to unilaterally recognise a Palestinian state,” Trump said. “This would be a reward for these horrible atrocities, including October 7th,” Trump said while speaking to world leaders at the UN General Assembly.

He also demanded that Hamas immediately release all hostages, living and dead, saying the time for partial releases is over.

“We have to stop the war in Gaza immediately. We have to negotiate immediately. But instead of giving in to Hamas’ ransom demands, those who want peace should be united with one message: release the hostages now. Just release the hostages now,” he said.

Several countries, including France, the UK, Canada, Portugal, Australia, Andorra, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, and Monaco, recognised the Palestinian state at the ongoing UNGA, much to the dismay of Israel and the US.

In a statement, Hamas welcomed the recognition of a Palestinian state by Western countries, but insisted that the group will not disarm, which is a key demand by Israel to end the ongoing war in Gaza.

“Weapons of the resistance are a national right anchored by all international laws and treaties, until the end of the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem,” Hamas said in a statement.
