(Representational image)The UK Police have arrested at least five men, including four Iranian nationals, on suspicion of terrorism offences as part of an investigation into a plot to “target specific premises”, authorities said.
London’s Metropolitan Police in a statement said that the arrests were carried out in London, Swindon and the Greater Manchester area. The arrested men are aged between 29 and 46 and remain in custody as they were arrested on suspicion of “preparation of a terrorist act”.
The police statement added that the nationality and identity of the fifth person is still being ascertained.
The Metropolitan police couldn’t provide any further detail about the investigation for operational reasons, but detailed that the target premises were made aware about the possible threat and were supported by authorities.

Out of the four in custody: a 29-year-old was arrested in Swindon, another 29-year-old man was arrested in Stockport, a 40-year-old was arrested in Rochdale and a 46-year-old man was arrested from the west London area.
The fifth person was detained in the Manchester area under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
Commander Dominic Murphy, chief of the Metropolitan’s counter-terrorism command, said “The investigation is still in its early stages and we are exploring various lines of enquiry to establish any potential motivation as well as to identify whether there may be any further risk to the public linked to this matter.”
Murphy further added “We understand the public may be concerned and as always, I would ask them to remain vigilant and if they see or hear anything that concerns them, then to contact us,” BBC reported.
Police officials were carrying out an extensive search operation at a number of addresses in Greater Manchester, London and Swindon in connection with the arrests and continuing the investigation.
