International Gita Mahotsav 2024 Date: Referred to as Bhagawad Gita Jayanti Samaroh, Gita Mahotsav commemorates the birth of ‘Srimad Bhagwat Gita’ throughout the world by all devotees of this sacred scripture.
The Bhagavad Gita contains the invaluable advice from Lord Krishna that he offered to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra on the first day of the 18-day battle in the Mahabharata nearly 5152 years ago.
Organised by the Kurukshetra Development Board and Haryana Tourism, Gita Mahotsav aims to promote the teachings of Bhagavad Gita.
In 2016, the Haryana Government decided to commemorate Gita Jayanti as the International Gita Mahotsav.

As it attracted over two million visitors to Kurukshetra, marking a significant milestone in the history of Gita Jayanti celebrations in the region, the Haryana government made it an annual observance.
Gita Mahotsav is observed on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) of the Margashirsh month (November–December) as per the traditional Hindu lunar calendar.
It is the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi day of the Margashirsha month, and this year, Gita Mahotsav will be starting on November 28, 2024, and will conclude on December 15, 2024, in Kurukshetra, Haryana, India.
The festival is primarily held at Brahma Sarovar, a significant site in Kurukshetra, which is believed to be the location where Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna during the Kurukshetra War.

Gita Jayanti Samaroh, a popular fair in Kurukshetra, involves various activities such as yajna, Gita reading, bhajans, aartis, dance, and dramas.
The event attracts tourists and pilgrims, with discussions and seminars by scholars and Hindu priests on the holy book’s influence on humankind.
Additionally, stage play and Gita chanting competitions are held for children to showcase their talents, with leaflets, pamphlets, and books containing the essence of Gita are distributed to the public.
