Holika Dahan and Holi 2025: Holi, also known as the “Festival of Colours,” is one of the most vibrant and colourful Hindu festivals and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy. In most places, Holi is celebrated for two days.

The first day of Holi is known as Holika Dahan, Jalawali Holi, or Chhoti Holi; on this day, people worship Holika and burn her in fire, while the second day of Holi, known as Rangwali Holi or Dhulandi, is the festival of dry gulaal and watercolours, and is considered the main day of Holi.

The origins of Holi can be traced back to a Hindu mythological story in which Hiranyakashyap attempted to kill his son, Prahlad, and his sister Holika, attempting to burn him alive. However, Prahlad survived the flames, while his sister Holika was burnt, which constituted the spiritual foundation of the festival.
