Watch: Python leaps out of pond to prey on deer in Maharashtra

While sharing the clip, which was captured on an e-surveillance camera of Central Chanda Division in Maharashtra, the official highlighted how quickly pythons can hunt down its prey -- only a quarter of the time humans need to blink their eyes.

The video shows the python jumping out of the water to grab the deer by the neck before coiling its body around it.

Animal encounters in the wild are mesmerising and scary at the same time and a recent video of a python preying on an unsuspecting deer is blowing people’s minds online.

The video shows a huge reptile leaping out of a pond and attacking a wild deer in the blink of an eye. Shared by forest official Susanta Nanda on Twitter, the video shows a small herd of deer drinking water in a muddy swamp and a python appears out of thin air and coils its body around its prey before finally grabbing the deer by its neck.

While sharing the clip, which was captured on an e-surveillance camera of Central Chanda Division in Maharashtra, the official highlighted how quickly pythons can hunt down its prey — only a quarter of the time humans need to blink their eyes.

“When pythons kill prey, they use a kind of ambush technique by jumping & striking the prey, grabbing it with their teeth in around 50 milliseconds only. ( Humans take 200ms to blink an eye),” Nanda wrote.

The video quickly went viral and although most found it quite astonishing, some felt it was terrifying.
