As Pune city NCP (S-P) chief Prashant Jagtap offered to resign to protest against a possible alliance of his party with Ajit Pawar-led NCP, Lok Sabha MP from Baramati Supriya Sule said any decision with regard to the tie-up will be taken only after consulting the party ”karyakartas” (party workers).

”We have received offers in this regard..But any decision of an alliance will be taken up after consulting the party workers. Whatever our party ”karyakarta” will say, we will agree to it,” Sule, who is also the NCP (S-P)’s working president, told The Indian Express on Tuesday.

The Baramati MP said NCP (S-P) Maharashtra president Shashikant Shinde will hold discussion with NCP’s state chief Sunil Tatkare and only then will a decision be announced in a couple of days.

When contacted, Tatkare said,”I have no knowledge about any possible alliance with NCP (S-P). Tomorrow, we are holding a meeting in Mumbai. We will have a discussion and only then I will be able to comment about it.”

Asked whether she was personnally in favour of joining hands with Ajit Pawar’s party, Sule said, ”I have no personal view…it all depends on what the party workers feel. If they feel we should align with the NCP, then we will abide by their decision…”

As for Prashant Jagtap offering to quit, Sule said she had no knowledge about it as she was busy in Parliament. ”I have not received any resignation from Prashant Jagtap. Neither our state president has received any resignation letter….Our party is run on democratic lines. Whatever decision we take, it will be taken after consulting our party rank and file,” she said, adding, ”Just yesterday, I and our state president held two our discussion with Prashant Jagtap…”

Sule said while discussions are going on with NCP, the Maha Vikas Aghadi is getting ready to fight the civic elections. ”Our discussion about seat-sharing in MVA is at a final stage…This election is about the party workers, it is about their interest. Our party will therefore take a decision, giving topmost priority to the interest of our party workers. We will do everything possible in the interest of Pune and Punekars.”

While his leaders, especially in Pimpri-Chinchwad, are openly talking of an alliance with Sharad Pawar’s party, Ajit Pawar himself called up Congress leader Satej Patil and sought an alliance with the Congress. When asked whether she had spoke to Ajit Pawar about an alliance with his party, Sule replied in the negative. Neither had Ajit Pawar called her up to discuss the possibility of an alliance.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference in Kolhapur on Tuesday, Congress MLC Satej Patil said,”It is true that Ajit Pawar had called me and discussed the issue of a possible alliance. However, the phone call was not related for an alliance in Kolhapur or Ichalkaranji civic bodies. In Pune, our plan to fight the civic elections as Maha Vikas Aghadi is ready.”
