Netizens hail UP woman constable who was at work with her baby sleeping on desk

To help out a UP woman cop, whose picture with her baby sleeping on a desk as she worked went viral on social media, the police department has transferred to her native district. Many were left quite pleased with the decision and took to social media to express their delight.

Just days after the picture of a woman constable working with her infant daughter sleeping on a desk next to her went viral, the cop was transferred to her native district, where her parents live. UP DGP Om Prakash Singh Sunday confirmed her transfer to Agra. The picture of constable Archana Jayant’s (30) was shared by the Additional superintendent of police of UP, Rahul Srivastava.

“Meet ‘MotherCop’ Archana posted at kotwali jhansi for whom the duties of motherhood & the department go side by side ! She deserves a Salute!!” Srivastava had tweeted. The post went viral in no time, with many praising the cop for her dedication. (Read the story in Bengali)

To help out Jayant, who did not have family support in Jhansi, she has been transferred to Agra so that her family can help and assist her with childcare. “When I saw the image and read the story, I spoke to the Inspector General (IG) Jhansi, who has rewarded the constable with Rs 1,000 in cash. I got to know that she is very hard-working. Despite the fact that she has a newborn, she did not take childcare leave. She opted to go to duty. When I spoke to her, she said the only problem she is facing is that she does not have family support,” DGP Singh told The Indian Express.

Many were left quite pleased with the police department’s decision and took to social media to express their delight. However, many also pointed out the lack of facilities the viral picture highlighted. “Communicates a lot about our “mother” unfriendly system too,” tweeted one user while sharing the viral picture.
