An eight-year-old girl, Arshia Goswami, from Panchkula in Haryana has defied the norms surrounding age and has become an internet sensation with her weightlifting skills. The Olympic medal aspirant set the record for the youngest deadlifter in 2021 by lifting 45 kg weight at the age of six. India Book of Records confirmed her feat and videos showing her slaying weightlifting have impressed netizens.

In a recent video posted on Instagram, the eight-year-old girl is seen lifting 60 kg. In another video posted on the Instagram account managed by her father, Goswami said that she draws inspiration from Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu. “I love weightlifting and enjoy it a lot. Today I am the youngest weightlifter 🏋️♀️ in the country. I am inspired by @mirabai_chanu and tomorrow when I grow up, I too want to win a gold medal for India. #StrongHer @cry_india,” read the caption.
Goswami is also interested in taekwondo and powerlifting. It all began when she joined her father who is a certified fitness trainer, during his regular workout session. In six months, she began deadlifting and at the age of six, she lifted 45 kg. She also won a bronze medal at state-level weightlifting competition. “At 8, i’m a living proof that age is just a number,” read the text insert in the clip shared by Humans of Bombay.
