Video of Usha Uthup singing Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ sets the internet on fire: ‘Undefined Aura’

A decade after Usha Uthup wooed music enthusiasts with her version of Skyfall, Adele’s iconic song, the Indian singer surprised her fans again, performing the rendition at an event titled “Kinare Dariya” held at Kolkata’s The Denmark Tavern hotel.

Sharing the video, an Instagram handle @muse_musicworld wrote, “Usha Uthup brings her signature style to the stage with a stunning rendition of the legendary Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ at Kinare Dariya! The versatile legend adds her own magic to this iconic song. Love Adele love Usha. skyfall by Usha Uthup.”

She earlier performed Skyfall at an INK event in 2013.

With over 10 million views, the video has taken the internet by storm. A user commented, “Whatever she covers, it becomes her song.” Another user wrote, “Queen of our desi pop can do this too.”

“Usha Uthup can easily sing skyfall but Adele would never be able to sing Darling aankhon se aankhein chaar karne do,” a third user reacted. “She has a superb aura,” another user wrote.

The 76-year-old veteran singer is synonymous with Indian pop and jazz music. She is among the few musicians who popularised jazz culture in the country. From singing in a small nightclub in Chennai to giving hits like Hari Om Hari, Ramba, and Darling, among several others, Uthup has enthralled generations.

In 2024, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award.

In February this year, Uthup amazed social media with a soulful rendition of Miley Cyrus’s Grammy-winning song Flowers. The singer performed at the popular Kolkata restaurant Trincas, where she has been a regular performer since the late 1960s.
