Indian currency comes in multiple denominations of notes and coins. These intricately designed currencies often depict monuments, emblems and historic moments. Currently, there are seven currency notes in circulation: Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 2,000. After the demonetisation in 2016, new currency designs were slowly introduced.

Each of these notes depicts a historical monument, except the Rs 2,000 note that has a photo of the Mangalyaan space probe from India’s first interplanetary mission.

Now a pictorial Twitter thread is going viral in which each note is photographed against the monument printed on it.

These updated pictures were shared online by Twitter user Desi Thug (@desi_thug1) on April 28. The pictures show Konark Mandir in Odisha’s Puri (Rs 10), followed by Kailash Mandir Ellora in Maharashtra (Rs 20), the Stone Chariot in Hampi (Rs 50), the Rani Ki Vav stepwell in Gujarat (Rs 100), Sanchi Stupa in Madhya Pradesh (Rs 200), and Lal Qila or Red Fort in New Delhi (Rs 500). The masterfully framed pictures have gathered over 22,000 likes already.

By putting major monuments on currency notes, the government hopes to promote the rich heritage of the country.
