B P Karn suffered a heart attack on a moving train while travelling with his brother from Darbhanga in Bihar to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on Pawan Express. However, a ticket checker’s swift response to the medical emergency saved Karn’s life.

The 65-year-old man was in a first-class coach when he experienced a sharp pain in his chest and passed out. His brother reached out to the Railways’ RailMadad portal, which sent an alert to Savind Kumar, the ticket checker aboard. According to NDTV, Karn’s brother had also contacted a family doctor who advised cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The ticket checker arrived in time and administered CPR to Karn for 15 minutes to revive him. Soon after the train reached Chhapra station, Karn was assigned a medical team who rushed him to a hospital. In the video shared by the official X handle of the Ministry of Railways, the ticket checker can be seen rigorously administering CPR to Karn.

“TTE gave ‘life donation’ to a railway passenger. When a passenger travelling in 11062 Pawan Express from Darbhanga in Bihar to Varanasi suffered a heart attack, the TTE deployed in the train, without wasting any time, gave him CPR over the phone as per the doctor’s instructions, thus saving the passenger’s life,” the post read.

A similar incident happened in July where a doctor saved a senior citizen by administering a quick CPR at Delhi Airport.
