Panic gripped Punjab’s Jalandhar on Monday after several prominent schools received bomb threat emails, prompting authorities to immediately suspend classes and evacuate students as a precautionary measure.

According to police sources, bomb threats were emailed to the principals of KMV School, St Joseph’s Convent School, IVY World School and Shiv Jyoti School. As soon as the emails were received, school administrations stopped ongoing classes, switched off lights and informed parents through WhatsApp messages, phone calls and school apps to immediately pick up their children.

A senior police officer present at one of the schools confirmed that the threats were received via email. Anti-sabotage teams were rushed to the locations and thorough searches were conducted on school premises. As a safety measure, holidays were declared in all affected schools.

Addressing the media, Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur and Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal said the cyber cell is investigating the source of the emails. “So far, no suspicious object has been found at any school. Searches are ongoing and are expected to be completed by evening,” they said.

The officials added that even schools that did not receive threat emails have been advised to remain cautious. “There is no need to panic. All necessary security measures are being taken,” the police commissioner said.

The sudden decision to declare holidays around 11 am, instead of the scheduled dispersal time of 2.30 pm, caused anxiety among parents. Many rushed to schools, leaving their work, to ensure the safety of their children.

The police assured that strict vigilance is being maintained across the city and investigations are underway to trace the origin of the threatening emails.
