NLU Jodhpur students and alumni on Thursday hit back at the false reporting by national media over the death of a law student who died last Sunday while holidaying in Gokarna.

Various news reports falsely claimed that NLU Jodhpur law student Pranita Mehta slipped and fell to her death while trying to take the “perfect selfie” from the top of a light house.

“It was absolutely false, she was sitting on the beach when the tide came and she was trying to fight for her life for 45 minutes,” an NLU Jodhpur alumnus told LegallyIndia.

In a bid to set the record straight, one of Pranita’s friends took to Reddit and described the actual events that lead to her untimely death.

In a post titled “My friend passed away and TOI made a mockery of her”, her friend wrote that Pranita was swept away by high tide while sitting on rocks at Kumta Beach along with two other friends.

The post adds that Pranitha held on to a rock and tried to swim to the shore braving the high tide, but unfortunately she was carried away deep into sea.

The Redditor named and shamed news sites such as Scoopwhoop, which removed the article from their site, NewsX, OneIndia, The Times of India and The Hindu for publishing false news without corroborating facts.
