Cricket enthusiasts and MS Dhoni’s fans were quick to react to the announcement, calling it the ‘end of an era.’ A fan commented, “Expected him to captain for the last final time, but.” Another fan wrote, “End of an Era for Ms Dhoni as captain of CSK! Legend of the game.”
“why you have to announce this just a day before ipl, @msdhoni ?? Isn’t it unfair to the fans who waited entire year just to see you lead csk again,” an emotional fan reacted. “MS Dhoni is not the captain in this IPL. Rohit Sharma is not the captain in this IPL. Virat Kohli is not the captain anymore. This IPL is different for many of us,” another user wrote.
CSK also released a statement that reads, “MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of TATA IPL 2024. Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches in IPL during this period.”
“The team looks forward to the upcoming season,” the statement added. MS Dhoni has led CSK to five IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. He has also led CSK to two CLT20 titles in 2010 and 2014.
