The Congress looks all set to win Karnataka with the early trends suggesting the grand old party comfortably crossed the halfway mark. In the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a win in Karnataka is crucial for Congress.

Rahul Gandhi speech In his speech after Karnataka victory, Rahul Gandhi said ‘nafrat ka bazaar band ho gaya’, ‘mohabbat ki dukaanein khul gayi’ hai.

The Congress is currently leading in more seats in the Kalyan Karnataka, Kittur Karnataka and South regions. The saffron party is leading in Bangalore and coastal Karnataka regions. Siddaramaiah leaads in Varuna, Basavraj Bommai leads in Shiggaon, and DK Shivakumar leads in Kanakapura. Also, JD(S)’s Nikhil Kumaraswamy is leading from Ramanagara and IT Minister Dr. Ashwanth Narayan is leading from Malleshwaram.

It should be noted that a party or a coalition needs to win 113 seats to secure a majority in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly.

Karnataka is the first state in the southern region where the BJP has been able to form a government. To defeat the BJP, the Congress party made five promises including Rs 2,000 monthly income for a woman who is the head of a household, a Rs 3,000 stipend for unemployed graduates, 10 kg of rice for every member of a family below the poverty line, 200 units of free power for poor families, and free bus travel for women

Meanwhile, the JD(S) promised the supply of five free LPG cylinders per year and the waiver of loans by self-help groups for women. The ruling BJP also promised three free LPG cylinders during key festivals. A strong campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi assures the party’s confidence also.
