Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Italian counterpart, Georgia Meloni, along the sidelines of the COP28 climate action summit in Dubai. Meloni posted online a selfie with Modi on Friday with the hashtag Melodi.

“Good friends at COP28,” the Italian far-right leader captioned the photo. Modi reposted it on X, formerly Twitter, and wrote, “Meeting friends is always a delight.” The photo soon went viral and the hashtag Melodi has been trending on the platform.

Meloni’s post has gathered 23.9 million impressions in less than 24 hours and 2.96 lakh likes.
Multiple Grammy Award-winning composer Ricky Kej wrote, “Love this!! This is diplomacy at its best. Candid, improvised, fun and with loads of mutual respect. May both our great Nations grow together. Our Hon’ble PM @narendramodi and the Hon’ble PM of Italy @GiorgiaMeloni #Melodi.”

Many netizens began to share memes about the two world leaders with the hashtag Melodi.

“It’s really good to see the light mood of World Leaders,” an X user commented below Meloni’s post. “The meme community claims the decisive victory,” said another. “You can’t imagine the happiness on the face of meme creators in India After this pic. They were eagerly waiting for this,” wrote a third. “This post by Madam @GiorgiaMeloni might be break all viral records. Nice choice of hashtag #Melodi. Reflects the strong ties between the two nations,” another user posted.

When Meloni visited India in September for the G20 summit, Modi gifted her a Patan Patola scarf. The scarf is woven by the Salvi family in northern Gujarat’s Patan area. The textile is so well crafted that it becomes a feast of colours, with the front and the reverse becoming indistinguishable.
