Work life comes packaged with glossy promises of free coffee and air-conditioning, but also includes 'free trauma' and an 'unlimited existential crisis' as per the RedditorA Gurgaon resident recently took to Reddit to vent about the everyday grind of city life, describing solo living as a never-ending test of patience and resilience, where “every day feels like a challenge episode”.
Posting on r/Gurgaon, he titled his rant, “Living alone in Gurgaon is basically a reality show, just without prize money,” and went on to list seven struggles that, according to him, define his daily routine. “Living in Gurgaon should qualify as a survival skill on LinkedIn,” he wrote.
Mornings, he joked, don’t start with an alarm but with the fear of being jolted awake by a neighbour’s pressure cooker. Navigating traffic is another battle altogether, especially near HUDA, where crossing the road feels like a staring contest with autos daring pedestrians to take a step, he said.
Sky-high rent also made the list. The user quipped that his salary barely makes it through the month once rent is paid, sarcastically suggesting Gurgaon’s buildings must be hiding helipads to justify their prices.
Even simple comforts like food delivery weren’t spared from his satire. Work life, he said, comes packaged with glossy promises of free coffee and air-conditioning, but also includes “free trauma” and an “unlimited existential crisis.” The struggles don’t end at home either, where the lift, he added, stops at every floor except his own, seemingly out of sheer spite.
Weekends, according to the post, hit the hardest. The rant ended with a nod to fellow Gurgaon residents who are single, tired, and staying afloat with memes, instant noodles, and what he called “mild delusion,” hinting at an unspoken bond formed through shared misery.

The post struck a chord with many. A Redditor shared, “Loneliness is something you have to deal with in Gurgaon and I have accepted the fact. Although I try to keep myself engaged as much as possible. I have asked a few people here for badminton and played once too. Also asked my society members for badminton matches in the morning and would be starting soon too. Also probably gonna give misfits a try too to talk to some new people with shared interest. Girlfriend is a topic that I have given up on as everyone I meet already has a boyfriend, so I have left that to fate. Although new friends are something I always look forward to making.”
Another user commented, “You merely pay rent in this hell. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t breathe the air with AQI less than 100 until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but suffocating!”
A third person added, “Believe me gurgaon rents are much cheaper than Mumbai rents.”
A fourth individual commented, “Netflix and maggi are the essentials to conquer this city.”
