Anish Sarkar, three years, eight months, and 19 days old, from Kaikhali in north Kolkata, scripted history as he became the youngest-rated chess player ever. Sarkar, who picked up the sport a year ago, is taking the Internet by storm. Industrialist Anand Mahindra recently gave a shoutout to Sarkar, highlighting his skills in Chess.
Sharing a video of the young Sarkar, Mahindra wrote, “Anish Sarkar. 3 years & 8 months old. The youngest-ever FIDE-rated player. A 1555 rating. At the age of 69, I think I play at a level of 1500. I better play him while I can still keep up for a few moves..! #IndianChess Anish Sarkar rating.”

With over 3,63,000 views, the video garnered applause for Sarkar. A user wrote, “Hope this little brain flourishes for ever and stays fresh! Pipeline of youngsters coming is amazing.” Another user commented, “India is dominating in chess and it will carry-on. Future is in good hands.”

Born on January 26, 2021, Sarkar began his chess journey a year ago. He made his competitive debut in October when he played in the West Bengal State Under-9 Open. He secured 5.5 out of 8 points to finish 24th by defeating two rated players.
Last week, Sarkar competed in the West Bengal State Under-13 Open, a tournament where he met the requirement of facing five rated players which earned him the initial FIDE rating of 1555. The ratings were updated by the world body on Thursday, reports said.
