Kerala rain: Chilling video of strong currents falling off the cliff at Athirapilly Waterfalls goes viral
The viral video shows strong currents falling off the famous waterfall in Kerala.

At least 50 people have died and hundreds are feared trapped after a series of landslides––triggered by torrential rain––hit Kerala’s Wayanad district on Tuesday. Many devastating videos of the destruction are being shared widely on social media. Amid such videos, a video of the famous Athirapilly Waterfalls of Thrissur district is also going viral.
The viral video shows strong currents falling off the cliff at one of the most popular waterfalls in Kerala. Sharing the video, an X handle @chennaiweather wrote, “#Keralarains triggering huge landslides and flooding across North Kerala,Wayanad region. Athirapally falls today and 3 years back.” In the same post, the X handle also shared a video claiming to be of the Athirapilly Waterfalls from three years back.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for five districts warning of extreme heavy rainfalls, an orange alert for seven districts and a yellow alert for two districts on July 30.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and assured assistance.
“Distressed by the landslides in parts of Wayanad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured. Rescue ops are currently underway to assist all those affected. Spoke to Kerala CM Shri @pinarayivijayan and also assured all possible help from the Centre in the wake of the prevailing situation there.” PM Modi also announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi urged the Union government to extend all possible support for rescue and medical help, as well as immediate release of the compensation to the families of those deceased.
