After a brief hiatus due to a health scare, Malayalam megastar Mammootty is back in the public eye and is also revelling in the success of his most recent movie, Kalamkaval, which has reportedly grossed over Rs 80 crore worldwide so far and earned acclaim for his performance as the antagonist. He recently inaugurated the valedictory session of the Indian Cultural Congress 2025, organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala, where he spoke at length about the importance of mutual trust among people that transcends religious boundaries.

At a time when bigotry is becoming increasingly common, the megastar called upon the masses to prioritise humanity above everything else. He said, “Let religions take their own course. We must trust human beings. We are the ones who see one another, live together, breathe the same air and live under the same sunlight. The sun, rain and water have no religion, caste or borders. Yet we constantly try to find differences in everything. My belief is that the attempt to create divisions is driven by selfish interests.”

The actor added, “Culture is about recognising the presence of others. It is only when we acknowledge that we are not the only beings in this world, that billions of people and other living creatures also exist and have their rightful claim to this earth and its air, that we become truly culturally enriched.”

Maintaining that education does not, by default, ensure culture, Mammootty said, “Education is merely a part of culture. We have nurtured our own unique culture, and I think this event is meant to remind us of that. The most important thing is that humans trust one another.”
